My journey home to the Catholic Church

Why did I create a site about coming home to Catholicism?

Well, let’s start with the basics. I entered the Catholic Church at the Pentecost Vigil (May 30) 2020. How did I get there? Good question. I was raised protestant, attending Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian churches for most of my life. Which brings me to my goal with this website – describing how I came to the Catholic Church to maybe help those of you considering doing the same. Am I an expert? By no means! I am an academic, and I love research. I have learned a lot about the Catholic Church, and yet there is still much to explore. It can be a bit overwhelming for a newbie. And for those of you that have tried looking at other sites, sometimes the information is too much, too complicated, assumes too much knowledge, uses too much jargon, etc. It makes your head spin and you don’t know where to start.

Here is what you will find on this site: things that helped me personally, things I own that I use as part of practicing my faith, other resources I have found useful, my personal story of coming to the Catholic Church, and what I have learned about certain topics along the way. I’d also love to hear what you’d like to learn more about. The journey is far from over … I am still coming to know the Catholic Church and growing in faith. I want this to be a space where we learn together.

What would you have me do Lord?

“Decisions wisely discerned give rise to lasting peace.” Pope Francis We ask for many things in prayer, and many of our prayers go unanswered this side of Heaven. Our parish priest once gave a homily concerning our reaction to how God calls us. He mentioned that when the Lord calls you by name, it’s terrifying.…

Cultivating a habit of discipline

Like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you, My God. Psalm 42 Anyone else struggle with discipline? Before I became Catholic, having the discipline to attend our protestant services every Sunday was a struggle. There were no repercussions if we missed … no requirement nor expectation to confess…

First things first … how about some basic beliefs?

Prayer life … what is a rosary and why should I get one?

Learning more … what are some good resources I can read or watch?
